Shevchenko 50/50 to start, Bendtner hits the headlines and Mandzukic considers next move

Ukrainian talisman Andriy Shevchenko only has a 50/50 chance of playing against England tonight, team boss Oleg Blokhin was reported as saying in the Guardian.

Speaking in Donetsk, the manager said it would be "a big loss" if the striker’s knee injury kept him out of the game.

The ex-Chelsea player has already scored two goals and six fantasy football points in the tournament.

Pitching his team as the underdogs, Blokhin was reported in the Telegraph as saying that any manager would love to have Roy Hodgson’s current selection headache.

Hodgson has confirmed that Wayne Rooney will start at the Donbass Arena, meaning one of Andy Carroll or Danny Welbeck will miss out, despite both playing well against Sweden.

Elsewhere, Nicklas Bendtner has been fined €100,000 and banned for one match for baring underpants promoting a betting company in Denmark’s Group B match against Portugal.

Bendtner has two further days to appeal but will most likely be absent for his country’s first World Cup 2014 qualifying match against the Czech Republic in September.

In slightly better news for the striker, his performances at Euro 2012 have attracted the interest of Benfica, talkSPORT is reporting.

The Arsenal forward scored eight fantasy football points in his three games at the tournament.

Croatia’s Mario Mandzukic has also caught the eye, with his two goals and one assist at the competition also giving him eight fantasy football points.

According to talkSPORT, he said on Monday that he would wait until after the tournament to decide on his future.

With Croatia missing out on passage to the quarter-finals, the doors might now be open for Everton and others to begin talks with the VFL Wolfsburg player.

Finally, back at Euro 2012, Tomas Rosicky is a doubt for the Czech Republic’s quarter-final against Portugal.

The Arsenal playmaker is still struggling with the Achilles injury that kept him out of the final group match against Poland.

Daniel Kolar is expected to keep his place in the side, according to UEFA’s Euro 2012 news service.
