Chelsea set to secure Oscar, Fergie wants Baines and Dembele, Modric forcing through Real move
Chelsea look set to continue their summer spending spree with the signing of Brazilian starlet Oscar, according to Goal.com.
The 20-year-old playmaker last week admitted that he had passed a medical at Stamford Bridge, but he had not yet agreed to join Chelsea, and there was no confirmation a fee had been agreed with his current club, Internacional.
However, Internacional club president, Giovanni Luigi, has since told Radio Guiaba: "There is a verbal agreement between the two parties. But we have to put that on paper.”
Meanwhile, title-rivals Manchester United are hoping to bolster their squad with two of last season’s outstanding Premier League performers.
The Metro reports that a bid for long-time target Leighton Baines is in the offing, as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to shore up his left full-back options with 31-year-old Patrice Evra showing signs of decline.
United are set to bid around £8m for Baines, but Everton want near double that for a player who scored 32 fantasy football points and was named in the PFA Team of the Year last season.
Fulham’s Moussa Dembele is another player who shone last term for his club, and Fergie is set to part with £15m for the Belgian in order to solve his midfield dilemma, reports The Daily Mirror.
Dembele scored a relatively modest 12 fantasy football points last season, but it is his link-up play and fine passing ability that appeals to Ferguson, rather than his goal-scoring or assist-making capacity.
Another player in the deep-lying playmaker mould is that of Luka Modric, and the Croatian’s desire to leave Tottenham for a big-money move to Real Madrid has started to turn sour.
According to the Telegraph, the 26-year-old refused to train on Friday and snubbed the club’s pre-season tour of the U.S. this weekend.
However, the Croat still has four years left on his contract, so Spurs are in a position to get the money they want for the player, especially since Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is known to drive a hard bargain.
