Draws secure safe passage

Drogba at the double and United leave it late

A late Sergio Aguero free-kick salvaged a draw for Atletico Madrid at home to Chelsea and secured six points for the Argentine striker.

Aguero put Atletico ahead with a wonderful solo effort, only for Didier Drogba to haul his side into the lead with two goals, and six points, of his own.

The draw was enough for the Premier League leaders to qualify for the knock-out stage where they will be joined by Manchester United, who fought back from two goals down to get the draw they needed.

CSKA Moscow raced to a surprise 3-1 lead at Old Trafford, with talented midfielder Alan Dzagoev netting five points for a goal and an assist, only for United to mount a trademark fight-back thanks to a Paul Scholes header and an own goal from an Antonio Valencia strike.

Staying in Group B, Wolfsburg improved their chances of qualifying for the next stage by crushing Besiktas 3-0.

Influential duo Edin Dzeko and Zvjezdan Misimovic were at their devastating best and both scored five points for a goal and an assist each.

Bordeaux booked their place in the next round with a 2-0 win over Bayern Munich.

Juventus will fancy their chances of qualifying from Group A alongside the French champions after winning 1-0 against Maccabi Haifa, with defender Martin Caceres bagging five points for a goal and an assist.

Real Madrid and AC Milan played out a 1-1 draw, Karim Benzema and Ronaldinho getting the goals, but were overshadowed by group rivals Marseille's 6-1 crushing of FC Zurich.

Mamadou Niang and Fabrice Abriel both scored five points for a goal and an assist each as Marseille moved to within a point of the big two in the group standings.

And finally, Porto moved closer to securing their place in the knockout stages with a 1-0 win over Cypriot minnows Apoel Nicosa thanks to a solitary goal from Colombian striker Radamel Falcao.

There's an early start to the Champions League proceedings this evening as Barcelona travel to Russia in search of revenge against Rubin Kazan in a 17:30 kick-off.

Elsewhere a win for Arsenal, Sevilla and Lyon, who face Liverpool, will be enough to secure their place in the knock-out rounds.
