Arsenal lose Clichy and Bendtner to injury

Full-back suffers stress fracture in his lower back and gives English youngster his chance

Arsenal left-back Gael Clichy faces several weeks on the sidelines after picking up a back injury in the 3-0 win over Tottenham and will have a scan to assess the extent of the damage.

No official timeframe has been put on his return by Arsenal but should the scan confirm a stress fracture, as expected, then Clichy faces several weeks out of the side.

Clichy has made 76 Premier League appearances prior to this season and has scored 78 FL points, his best season tally coming last term when he picked up 33 points from his 30 appearances.

Youngster Kieran Gibbs is set to stand in for the Frenchman and a decent showing could make him a surprise candidate to force his way into England's World Cup squad at the end of the season.

Gibbs made his Premier League debut for Arsenal last season, again filling in for the injured Clichy, and he has played six times in the Premier League, has two clean sheets to his name but his overall Fantasy League tally currently stands on zero points.

Striker Nicklas Bendtner also faces some time out of the side after injuring his groin in the North London derby.

Bendtner has featured in all but one of Arsenal's 10 games so far this season, and has picked up five Fantasy League points in that time, but he now faces around a month on the sidelines.

Should you not want to replace Clichy in your Fantasy League Classic teams with the relatively inexperienced Gibbs then the likes of Bacary Sagna, Leighton Baines or the slightly more expensive Emiliano Insua are possible alternatives.

Some possible replacements for Bendtner, priced at £6.2m, could be Craig Bellamy, Kenwyne Jones, Carlton Cole or Kevin Davies.
