Chilli Guide

Welcome to the Chilli Guide - our weekly guide to which players you should be looking to bring into your team and who you should be avoiding.

Who decides on the chillis and snowflakes? you may ask. You do - the guide is based on the number of times a player is transferred in and out, by you the Fantasy League Classic managers.

Each Tuesday during the season, we'll be providing a rundown of the latest players who are a manager's best friend this week, only to be unceremoniously dropped the next.

Hot Players

Luis Antonio Valencia (Manchester United)
I I I

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has made it publically known that he has spent a lot of time in training over the last two year practising headers. In recent weeks this hard work has certainly paid off as he has been scoring with his head on a regular basis, though a lot of credit can also be uttered in the direction of United wingers Nani and, more recently, Luis Antonio Valencia. Valencia assisted both Rooney's headed goals in the recent game against West Ham, and provided two excellent crosses in the Carling Cup final. Fantasy League Classic managers hope there is more to come in the coming weeks.

Heurelho Gomes (Tottenham Hotspur)
I I

Tottenham's Brazilian stopper Heurelho Gomes has put all his initial troubles behind him and settled into to become a reliable keeper for Harry Redknapp's men. Tottenham continue to push on for fourth spot, aided by their defensive record which has seen then notch up four clean sheets in their last seven games in all competitions. It's not just clean sheets though that the keener eyed Fantasy League Classic manager has spotted, Gomes and Spurs have been consistently solid at the back and have not conceded more than one goal in a game for ten matches. That means the Brazilian stopper has not accrued negative points in a game since the middle of January.

Jimmy Bullard (Hull City)
I

Hull fans welcomed back jimmy Bullard from injury for the second time this season when he played his first game of 2010 at Everton on Sunday. The former Wigan man may have only lasted an hour, and Hull might have lost 5-1, but fans will be encouraged to see their record signing back in action. The last time Bullard returned to the side he notched up eight Fantasy League points in four games before suffering a set-back in his rehabilitation. FL Classic managers will be hoping for more of the same this time around, without any more injury complications.

Cold Players

Kolo Toure (Manchester City)
*

Since returning from the African Cup of Nations, defender Kolo Toure has seen his form suffer. The Ivory Coast international regained his place in the side and picked up a clean sheet in his first game back against Portsmouth. Toure then went four further games without a clean sheet and has subsequently lost his place in the team again. There are cheaper alternatives within the City defence for Fantasy League Classic managers and so Toure has become surplus to requirements.

Glen Johnson (Liverpool)
* *

England boss Fabio Capello will have been watching with interest on Monday night as Liverpool full-back Glen Johnson played his first competitive football of 2010. Johnson injured his knee at Villa Park just after Christmas and it was set to threaten his place at the World Cup this summer. His return will be a welcome boost for Liverpool, and England, though as they struggle to clinch the final Champions League spot. Johnson's popularity is sure to rise, providing Liverpool improve dramatically on Monday night's dreadful performance.

Hugo Rodallega (Wigan Athletic)
* * *

Monday night's clash between Wigan and Liverpool was perhaps the coming together of this season's two most inconsistent teams. Wigan fans will be delighted that they saw the best of their team and the worst of Liverpool as it meant they could record their first ever win over the Reds. Wigan deserve credit though, they played excellently on the night and Hugo Rodallega, who got the goal, amongst others, was superb. Rodallega is undoubtedly talented but has been very inconsistent of late, having netted just once in ten games. More performances like that from the Colombian and he will surely get more popular.
