Defensive Player of the Week

Veteran keeper part of the furniture at the Reebok

Former Finland international Jussi Jaaskelainen is comfortably the longest serving goalkeeper in the Premier League, having been a Bolton a hugely impressive 13 years.

The veteran keeper, who has amassed 400 appearances, has been at the club since 1997 showing the kind of loyalty that's almost lost in modern day football.

He has seen them through a promotion, an FA Cup semi-final, a league cup final and semi-final and into Europe.

Jaaskelainen's Fantasy League points record since Bolton won promotion to the Premier League in 2000 doesn't make for great reading though and shows the topsy-turvy nature of The Trotters' life in the top-flight.

Despite the fact he has only missed 16 league games in eight seasons, and 10 of those were in the same season, he has only broken the ten-point barrier on two occasions.

His season best is 27 but in total, prior to this season, he has 64 Fantasy League points in 288 games.

His stature within the club became evident recently when he fell out with new boss Owen Coyle about the dismissal of his long-term friend and goalkeeping coach.

Coyle had brought his backroom staff with him from Burnley but Jaaskelainen threatened to hand in a transfer request unless his mentor was reinstated.

Bolton have only mustered one clean sheet all season in the league, ironically as Coyle's new troops faced his former club, in the 1-0 win over Burnley.

Coyle has immediately started put his own stamp on Bolton though and it's only a matter of time before he has them playing they way he wants.

Their back-line has plenty of Premier League experience in it so the lack of clean sheets is not through want of trying.

Bolton host a Fulham side who are decimated by injury this weekend so if they are going to pick up their second clean sheet of the campaign, this is as good a time as any.

The Cottagers have almost as poor an away record as Burnley, having lost on each of their last four trips on the road and unless new signing Stefano Okaka finds his feet quickly that run could continue.
