Fantasy England

Fantasy League use the international break to bring you the first Fantasy League England team of the 10/11 season.

This will be updated for each international break until the end of the campaign, displaying which English players are performing best in the Fantasy League world. This is how the England team would line up against Bulgaria and Switzerland if Fabio Capello picked his team purely based on Fantasy League points.

Keeper: Joe Hart, MC (6 pts)
Handed the Manchester City startling berth at the beginning of the season and sure to be England's number one for many years to come, Joe Hart has a bright future ahead of him. The young stopper, who spent last season on loan at Birmingham, has made a sparking start to the season with clean sheets against Tottenham and Liverpool, as well as two in the Europa League. Only Darren Bent's last-gasp penalty has beaten him so far this season.

Full-back: Ashley Cole, CHE (11 pts)
Chelsea have started the season in blistering form and have yet to concede a goal in their opening three matches. Full-back Ashley Cole, such has been Chelsea's domination, has been given even more licence to bomb forward at every opportunity and could have had more than the one assist he has picked up so far to add to his three clean sheets.

Full-back: Micah Richards, MC (8 pts)
Manchester City's Micah Richards has been in the international wilderness for some time now after showing a lot of promise when he broke into the England side in 2006. He has not played at senior level since November 2007 though, but his early season form has prompted a recall to the Under 21 side. His age means he still has time on his side and his club manager has faith in his ability meaning Richards may not be too far away from a return to the England senior side.

Centre-back: John Terry, CHE (11 pts)
Former England skipper John Terry has always been a solid Fantasy League point-scorer and will inevitably be there or there about in the Fantasy England side. The Chelsea man, like the aforementioned Cole, has three clean sheets and an assist from his opening three games following an impressive start by the Champions. Terry is injured at the moment though and so won't feature for England against Bulgaria or Switzerland.

Centre-back: Joleon Lescott, MC (6 pts)
Another England hopeful in the Manchester City ranks to benefit from City's excellent defensive record. Joleon Lesocott has not played for the national side for almost a year, but has earned a recall for the opening Euro 2012 qualifiers this week. The £24m-man found himself out of favour towards the end of last season at City and is arguably only back in the team, operating in his former position at left-back, because of the injury to Wayne Bridge. Continued good form could see him back in the City side regularly.

Midfielder: Theo Walcott, ARS (14 pts)
Continuing to prove his critics wrong, Theo Walcott has been in blistering form so far this season. His hat-trick against Blackpool was a fine example of his ability and he also took his goal against Blackburn last weekend very well. Disappointed at missing out on the World Cup squad, Walcott will be keen to impress as qualifying for the next major tournament gets underway.

Midfielder: Craig Gardner, BIR (9 pts)
Capped 14 times at Under 21 level, but never for the senior side, Craig Gardner has become a well established member of the Birmingham City side. Having made the move from City rivals Aston Villa, the self-confessed Blues fan didn't take long to settle and this season he has started to provide the goals that his long-range shooting ability suggested he could do.

Midfielder: Paul Scholes, MU (7 pts)
Fabio Capello tried to talk Paul Scholes into coming out of international retirement in order to name him in his World Cup squad, and it's easy to see why based on his current form. The veteran Manchester United midfielder has looked back to his best in the opening three games of the season. Bossing the United midfield, spraying passes all around the park and even weighing in with one of his trademark long-range strikes. Very unlikely to play for England again now, but would be a great addition if he did reconsider.

Striker: Andy Carroll, NEW (14 pts)
Injury has forced new Newcastle number nine Andy Carroll out of the England Under 21 squad, but many believe his early-season form warranted a full senior call-up. The Gateshead-born striker has waited a long time for his chance to lead the line for the club he supported as a boy in the Premier League. He has grasped that chance with both hands with a fine hat-trick against Aston Villa and another goal at Wolves last time out. His strength and ability in the air means he has all the weapons to be an excellent Premier League striker, and maybe future England international?

Striker: Marlon Harewood, BPL (8 pts)
Never capped at any level for England, Marlon Harewood has for a while been a player of ridicule for many fans. A decent couple of seasons at West Ham saw him earn a move to Aston Villa, but he fell down the pecking order and eventually found himself at newly promoted Blackpool. A 4-0 win on the opening day was beyond their wildest dreams and Harewood showed fans what he is capable of with two goals and an assist.

Striker: Wayne Rooney, MU (7 pts)
Out of form and without a goal since March, Manchester United's Wayne Rooney finally netted against West Ham on Saturday, albeit from the penalty spot. The England man looked very out of sorts during the World Cup, but is finally getting back to fitness. He will be looking to get back fully amongst the goals against Bulgaria and Switzerland this week.

It couldn't do much worse than the bunch of missfits from the World Cup, even with Harewood up front!

I agree - it would be a massive risk considering his equal ability to play well below any kind of international level (some may argue), but Marlon would probably give his right nut to put on an England shirt, I don't think he'd ever stop running...
