International break sidelines several key players


Tottenham have been rocked by the news that Jermain Defoe has been ruled out for three months with damaged ankle ligaments picked up while playing for England.

His team-mate Michael Dawson also suffered an injury wearing the white of England and will be out for six weeks after twisting his knee.

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti expects to have John Terry available, but Frank Lampard looks set to miss the trip to West Ham on Saturday with a hernia injury.

Arsenal will be without winger Theo Walcott for between four and six weeks after he injured his ankle against Switzerland in midweek.

The Gunners will also have to make do without striker Robin van Persie when they host Bolton, and for at least a month afterwards, following his ankle injury sustained against Blackburn last time out.

Jussi Jaaskelainen will miss the visit of Arsenal on Saturday through suspension.

Dutchman Dirk Kuyt will miss Sunday's trip to Liverpool after injuring his shoulder on international duty.

Manchester City will be without £24m-rated striker Mario Balotelli for around six weeks meaning the Italian's wait for his Premier League debut goes on.

England skipper Rio Ferdinand could make a long awaited return for Manchester United against Everton on Saturday, though he may have to settle for a place on the bench.

Young Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell will be out until Christmas with an ankle injury.

New Fulham signing Carlos Salcido is expected to make his debut at left-back against Wolves after joining from PSV.

Wigan have keeper Chris Kirkland back in the squad for the visit of Sunderland following a hip problem, but he may have to settle for a place on the bench behind impressive stand-in stopper Ali Al Habsi.

Sunderland could hand a debut to record-signing Asamoah Gyan, but his place is not guaranteed as fellow strikers Darren Bent and Danny Welbeck have been in good form this week.

Sol Campbell has had two reserve games under his belt, and is now considered fit, while new midfield signings Hatem Ben Arfa and Chiek Tiote are also both available and will be chomping at the bit to start for Newcastle against Blackpool.

Blackpool will welcome back Marlon Harewood to the side for the trip to his former club following an ankle injury.

Summer recruit Kenwyne Jones has been passed fit after recovering from the ankle injury he suffered on the opening day of the season.
