Latics run out deserved winners after fine performance
Roberto Martinez's Wigan produced a fine performance to record their first win over Liverpool in their history.
Hugo Rodallega secured the 1-0 victory with the only goal of the game in the first half and Wigan were unlucky not to extend the lead after the break when they were barely troubled by the visitors.
Emmerson Boyce was the top scoring player on the night, picking up five points for an assist and a clean sheet.
Boyce received the ball following a dreadful misplaced pass from Dirk Kuyt and swung in a magnificent cross with the outside of his boot to give Rodallega a tap-in.
A more positive note for Liverpool, and for England, was the return to fitness of Glen Johnson who was introduced from the substitute's bench in the second half.
