Button wins in Japan, but Vettel takes title

German finishes third to seal victory with four races left

Jenson Button clinched his third Grand Prix victory of the year but still could not prevent Sebastian Vettel from winning the World Drivers Championship for the second successive year.

Despite being forced onto the grass at the start by Vettel, Button assumed the lead after the second round of pit stops.

The Englishman also set the fastest lap time of the race with his penultimate lap.

Vettel surrendered second place to Fernando Alonso, but took the third and final podium position to win the title with four races remaining.

Mark Webber finished in fourth, while Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa clashed once again - Hamilton once again coming off better in fifth, with the Brazilian in seventh.

Sandwiched in-between was Michael Schumacher in sixth, with Sergio Perez, Vitaly Petrov and Nick Heidfeld completing the top 10.

Sebastien Buemi was the only driver who failed to finish the race.
