Rooney in midfield once again? Silva to be rested?

Manchester United are running out of fit midfielders, so Wayne Rooney could again play in the middle of the park when United host Sunderland at Old Trafford.

The Black Cats will be missing John O'Shea for the encounter, and will be forced to play third-choice goalkepper Kieron Westwood due to injuries to Simon Mignolet and Craig Gordon.

Manchester City will be without key defender Vincent Kompany when they face QPR because the Belgian is serving a one match suspension after being sent off against Wolves last time out.

Midfield maestro David Silva could be rested after picking up a minor back injury in City's midweek Champions League match against Villarreal.

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is set to recall John Terry to the starting line up against Blackburn, despite continued controversy regarding alleged racial comments.

Newcastle will be without wide-midfielder Gabriel Obertan for their Saturday lunchtime clash against Everton, while the Toffees have doubts over the fitness of Tim Cahill , Sylvain Distin and Philip Neville.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has been ruled out until after the international break due to an infected ankle, while Jamie Carragher faces a late fitness test on his injured calf ahead of the match against Swansea.

And finally, Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish could have the luxury of a fully fit squad to choose from for his team's clash with Norwich this weekend.
