Wigan safe, Blackburn down, Manchester City on brink

Midfield powerhouse Yaya Toure scored six points at the weekend as he inspired Manchester City to within touching distance of the Premier League crown.

The dynamic Ivorian got both goals in the win over Newcastle, while attacking left-back Gael Clichy collected a goal and an assist worth five points.

Wigan secured their top flight survival last night by beating Blackburn 1-0 and the defeat means relegation for their Lancashire rivals.

Paraguayan defender Antolin Alcaraz headed home the winner with three minutes left on the clock, registering six points for the goal and the clean sheet.

Robin van Persie took his tally for the season to 30 league goals with a brace, worth six points, against Norwich.

The plucky Canaries battled back to draw 3-3 and Wesley Hoolahan scored five points for a goal and an assist, but Arsenal remain in pole position for a Champions League berth.

A late Djibril Cisse strike lead QPR to victory over Stoke and means the Hoops hopes of beating the drop remain in their own hands going into the final game of the season.

Anton Ferdinand was awarded the assist for Cisse's winner and recorded his seventh clean sheet of the season for five points.
