Spain and Italy progress after an edgy night in Group C

Jesus Navas scored the only goal, and earned three Fantasy League points, as Spain left it late to secure their quarter-final spot with a 1-0 win over Croatia.

The substitute slotted into an empty net after a pass from Andres Iniesta two minutes from time.

Had Spain lost that game, they would have gone out.

In the other game, Italy were made to work for their 2-0 win over a resilient Republic of Ireland side.

Even then, a late leveller from Croatia in the other match would have sent Italy crashing out.

Antonio Cassano and substitute Mario Balotelli scored the goals, for three points each.

They both came from corners, Andrea Pirlo crossing for Cassano to glance in the first and Alessandro Diamante swinging in for Balotelli to acrobatically convert the second.
