Game Guide

Squad selection

Your aim as a Fantasy League Classic Euro 2012 manager is simple - pick your squad of 15 world class footballers from your budget of £150 million.

All players and prices are listed on our Player List, so send your scouts off in that direction. Don't worry too much about your accounting skills, as our system will give you a running total or available budget once you start selecting your players.

You can choose from the best talent the 16 teams in the tournament have to to offer, but can only pick up to two players from any one country for the group stage of the competition. This quota rises to four players from any one country before the first match of the knock out stage.

Squad Selection Summary

To summarise, your squad should be selected in four easy steps:

  1. Pick your squad from our Player List.
  2. Ensure that your squad is within the £150 million budget.
  3. Ensure that you do not have more than two players from any one country during the group stage. This limit rises to four players per country for the knockout stage.
  4. Make sure you have enough players to field a starting eleven in one of our three recognised international formations (4-3-3, 4-4-2, 5-3-2).

Formations

In order to be successful you'll need to invest wisely across your entire squad of 15 players. Only 11 players can play at any one time, so you need to find the best way of moulding your team's attacking and defensive instincts into a cohesive unit.

For any set of matches, your starting eleven can line up in one of three tried and tested international formations, 4-3-3, 4-4-2 or 5-3-2.

The 4-4-2 formation consists for one goalkeeper, four defenders, four midfielders and two forwards.

The 5-3-2 formation consists for one goalkeeper, five defenders, three midfielders and two forwards.

The 4-3-3 formation consists for one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards.

A set of matches is defined as all matches kicking off at the same scheduled kick-off time. You only score points for players that are on your pitch at the time of their scheduled Euro 2012 match. Using your unlimited substitutions you can change your formation between matches in order to use your full squad of 15 players. Or alternatively use our easy-to-use supersubs system to make the subs automatically.

Team Changes can take place right up until scheduled kick-off times. This means that even if matches are still being played, you can make changes for subsequent fixtures without losing points for players in the current match. However, it is important to note that if a player is not in your starting line-up at the scheduled kick-off time, then he will not score any points for your team.

Country Quotas

During the group stage of the competition, managers may not select more than two players from any country.

During the knock out stage of the competition, managers may not select more than four players from any country.

Available players

The Fantasy League Classic Euro 2012 player list will include players named in each of the 16 countries' squads. As the tournament approaches, the list of selectable players will be reduced to represent the final 23-man squads selected by each national federation, although player prices will never be adjusted once the initial list is published and the game opens for entries.

In exceptional circumstances, additional players will be added to the player list if they come into contention to participate in the tournament.

Players who are not on the player list are not available for selection.

Substitutions

You can use your squad to its full extent by making unlimited substitutions. To view your subsitutes bench, click the "Subs" tab towards the bottom of your pitch graphic. To make a substitution, simply hold down the left mouse button and drag the required player's shirt graphic from your subs bench on to the pitch over the shirt graphic of the player you wish to swap out. Your players will swap places there and then. Remember to click 'SAVE CHANGES' otherwise the change will not be completed.

You are free to make substitutions or transfers at anytime during the tournament. The deadline for each match is right up until a game's scheduled kick-off, allowing for your last-minute changes of heart.
This means that even if matches are still being played, you can make changes for subsequent fixtures without losing points for players in the current match.

However, it is important to note that if a player is not in your starting line-up at the scheduled kick-off time, then he will not score any points for your team.

If you want to make a substitution with immediate effect, just visit your team screen and drag the shirt icon of the player you wish to bring in on to the pitch in place of the player you are subbing off. They will then swap over there and then in time for the next scheduled kick-off. Be sure to press the SAVE button for your changes to be stored.

Supersubs

The Fantasy League Supersubs function allows you to plan your team’s substitutions in advance. With Supersubs you can choose to set up your squad in advance, allowing you to pick which players will be playing for which fixtures for the upcoming matches. Basically you have total control, allowing you to relax and enjoy the tournament, safe in the knowledge that your players are out on the field representing your team.

To set up your squad for forthcoming matches, click on the SUPERSUBS button on your team screen to obtain a menu of upcoming fixtures, listed by each set of kick-off dates.

Click the check box next to the players you would like to activate for each set of fixtures - players are highlighted in green if their team is due to play a match in that fixture set.

When you are happy with your selections, make sure to save your supersubs by clicking the button at the bottom of the list of players.

An email confirming your selections will be automatically sent out. We strongly recommend you save this email, or a printout of your choices, as we are unable to look into any Supersubs queries without either of these.

In the unlikely event of a website error that means the supersubs tool is unavailable, please email any changes to the support email address before the kick-off time of the affected matches. We will backdate any changes and credit points for players you email through to us, but unfortuately cannot backdate points if the supersubs request was made after the relevant match has already kicked off.

Transfers

Fantasy League Classic Euro 2012 allows each manager to make changes throughout the tournament. Managers may make unlimited transfers up until the start of the first match at 17:00 BST on Friday 8th June. After this initial unlimited transfers period has passed, managers have a total of 15 transfers to last throughout the tournament, with a maximum of 5 transfers per game phase. The transfer quota for teams entering after the tournament starts will drop so that late starters do not have an unfair advantage going into the Knock Out Stage. The number of available transfers goes down by three at the end of each game phase, i.e. entries made before or during Game Phase 1 have 15 transfers, entries made during Game Phase 2 have 12 transfers, entries made during Game Phase 3 have nine transfers, entries made during Game Phase 4 have six transfers, and entries made during Game Phase 5 have three transfers.

Existing teams’ transfer allocations are not automatically reduced at the end of each Game Phase, this only refers to teams registering at these particular times.

Making a transfer

Making a transfer is easy. Simply click on the 'TRANSFERS' button on your team screen to view your existing team. To move a player out of the team, click on the cross that appears next to the player's name and the player will be removed from your squad. The players' available to transfer into your team are shown in the list on the left-hand side of the screen. Some players' names will be greyed out because you do not have sufficient budget to bring them in, or because your club quota or formation rules will be broken as a result of moving in that player. Click on any non-greyed out player to bring him into your team. If you are bringing in a player of a different position from the one you are taking out, you may have to make a substitution first by dragging the shirt of a player on to the pitch from the team page or transfer page, for the player you are looking to transfer out. Then transferring him out from the bench, thus not invalidating your formation. When you're done, remember to click 'SAVE' and you're away.

Remember that you must stay within the £150 million budget, and you cannot own more than two players from any one country during the group stage, or more than four players from any one country during the knock out stage. Also keep in mind that you will need to select a valid formation for future matches, as noted in the formations section.
