Russia thrash Czechs to go top of Group A as Euro 2012 gets going

Midfielder Alan Dzagoev top scored with six Fantasy League points, for his two goals in Russia's 4-1 win over Czech Republic, as Euro 2012 got underway on Friday night.

Roman Pavlyuchenko came off the bench to score one and make one, for five FL points, while Andrei Arshavin scored four points for two assists.

The other Russian goal was scored by Roman Shirokov, who earned three points, while Aleksandr Kerzhakov also earned two points for an assist.

The Czech consolation was scored by Vaclav Pilar, and assisted by Jaroslav Plasil.

Earlier in the day co-hosts Poland opened the tournament with a 1-1 draw against Greece, in a game which saw one player from each side given a red card.

Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring before Dimitrios Salpingidis came off the bench to level for the Greeks, each earned three Fantasy League points for their efforts.

Sokratis Papastathopoulos was sent off for Greece just before half time, and then Polish keeper Wojciech Szczesny followed him when he brought down Salpingidis later in the half.

Both will now serve a one-match ban.

Greek captain Georgios Karagounis saw his penalty saved by substitute keeper Przemyslaw Tyton and the match ended 1-1.

I mean, given that it was the first game and my team was registered at least a week before kick off and he hasn't been transferred out then I can't see how I couldnt possibly get the points?

Hey Ian, Sorry, yes... can you take a look at my team (team name is Chicken Dinner). You'll see that I had Lewandowski in my team long before kick off and he is on zero points. Its in the Soccerex Fantasy League. I see that Piszczek didn't actually assist the Poland goal so that was my fault

Any idea why points still haven't been awarded from the first game yesterday? Poor Lewandowski is sitting on zero despite his goal. Piszczek on zero despite his assist too!

The points have been updated. They are updated live as the game is going on. Were both players in your starting 11 at the time the games kicked off?

I knew Dzagoev would do well, pity I had Kadlec in my side too...he may be a penalty taker but he can't defend!

Kadlec was dreadful wasn't he? I think he forgot he was playing left back and spent the entire game in the centre back position!

I didn't think Russia were even that good. Great picture of Dzagoev!
