England v Italy Match Preview

24th June 2012By: Mark Tinklin

Quarter-Final: Sunday 24th June 19:45

A semi-final against Germany is up for grabs for the winner

England

Roy Hodgson is expected to name the same team that beat Ukraine when his charges come up against Italy. There has been talk that Andy Carroll and Theo Walcott would get a starting berth, but they may have to settle for roles from the bench. England have lost seven of their last 10 quarter-finals at major tournaments.

Italy

Colossal defender Giorgio Chiellini will miss out for Italy because of the thigh injury he picked up in the Group Stage win over the Republic of Ireland. Leandro Bonucci is expected to take over in the centre of defence. Mario Balotelli is in contention to start after scoring against the Irish, but questions remain over who will play at both right and left back.
