Germany v Italy Match Preview

28th June 2012By: Mark Tinklin

Semi-final: Thursday 28th June 19:45

Italian injury doubts will probably make it, but will Gomez play?

Germany

Bastian Schweinsteiger has declared himself fit to face Italy in tonight's semi-final. There had been doubts over the fitness of the influential midfielder because of an ankle injury. Germany changed their entire front line for the win over Greece and Mario Gomez, Thomas Muller and Lukas Podolski could all return. However, Marco Reus could keep his place after impressing in the quarter-final.

Italy

Italy could revert to the three-man backline they used at the start of the tournament because of doubts over Ignazio Abate's fitness. The all-action defender is struggling with a hamstring injury he sustained in the penalty shootout win over England, while fellow right-back Christian Maggio is suspended. Daniele De Rossi and Giorgio Chiellini are also trying to prove their fitness.
