Netherlands v Germany Match Preview

13th June 2012By: Mark Tinklin

Group B: Wednesday 13th June 19:45

Oranje must win to keep their Euro 2012 hopes alive

Netherlands

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar could come into the starting 11 for tonight's clash with rivals Germany. The Schalke striker was left out of the side that lost to Denmark prompting rumours of discontent in the Dutch squad over Bert van Marwijk's team selection, but has been seen partnering Robin van Persie in training. There are also suggestions that Dirk Kuyt could start, while Joris Mathijsen has recovered from injury.

Germany

Don't expect any changes to the German side that faces the Netherlands in Kharkiv. Mario Gomez will keep his place as the spearhead of the attack after heading the winner against Portugal and Mats Hummels should have done enough to retain a starting berth. Germany have won three of the seven meetings between the two nations at major championships, drawing two and suffering two defeats.

Not exactly true, the Netherlands lost but could still qualify on goal difference if they beat Portugal and Germany beat Denmark, likewise, Germany haven't qualified yet. If they lose to Denmark and Portugal beat Netherlands then Germany could go out on goal difference. Unlikely but still mathmatically possible
