South African winger is Blackburn's first new arrival
Blackburn have signed South African midfielder Elrio van Heerden from Belgian side Club Brugge on a free-transfer.
The 25-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year deal after successfully coming through a trial.
Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce has high-hopes for a player he says has plenty of pace and can play on either wing.
The South African international has been named in his country's squad for the forthcoming Confederations Cup where the 2010 World Cup hosts will face Iraq, New Zealand and Spain.
Van Heerden has struggled with injury since joining Brugge from Danish side FC Copenhagen in 2006 and was recommended to Allardyce by the agent of Blackburn duo Aaron Mokoena and Benni McCarthy.
