The Wizard joins West Ham on a season long loan

West Ham have added more firepower to their squad by signing striker Luis Jimenez from Italian champions Inter Milan.

The Chile international, nicknamed El Majo – meaning the Wizard, has signed a season long loan deal with a view to a permanent move and will complete the deal after a medical on 1 July.

The 25-year-old is likely to play a similar role in the West Ham team that David Di Michele filled last season and support a target striker, be that Dean Ashton or Carlton Cole.

Jimenez fell out of favour with his national boss after deciding to concentrate on getting in the Inter team and so hasn’t played for his country since March 2008.

Despite collecting 20 caps this meant he would have been denied a work permit, however Inter boss Jose Mourinho stepped into to push his case.

A creative forward, but never prolific in front of goal, Jimenez first came to prominence at Serie B side Ternana before loan spells at Fiorentina and Lazio.
