High five for 5'5" Dyer

16th January 2012By: Mark Tinklin

Swansea takes passing football crown from Arsenal

Wing wonder Nathan Dyer was the top points scoring player at the weekend with five points.

The diminutive wide-man inspired Swansea to a sensational 3-2 win over previous pass-masters Arsenal, collecting a goal and an assist.

The Gunners went ahead in just the fifth minute when Robin van Persie beat Michel Vorm at his near post, but Danny Graham won it for the Welsh outfit, midway through the second half.

Wayne Rooney registered four points as Manchester United got back to winning ways in the league by beating Bolton 3-0.

The Red Devil recovered from missing a second successive penalty by setting up returning hero Paul Scholes and young striker Danny Welbeck.

Luis Antonio Valencia impressed on the right wing and Michael Carrick sealed the victory with a cultured left-foot shot.

Blackburn moved out of the bottom three by thrashing Fulham 3-1, despite playing with 10-men for most of the match.

Yakubu was sent off in the 23rd minute, but Rovers grabbed a fourth win of the season thanks to goals from Morten Gamst Pedersen, David Dunn and Mauro Formica.

Tottenham lost ground in their title challenge after drawing 1-1 with Wolves, Liverpool drew a blank against Stoke and Chelsea beat Sunderland by a single Frank Lampard goal to nil.

Could someone please clear up when it is possible to set up your fantasy five team and when it isn't ? I've lost a lot of points over the manic Christmas period by never knowing when the team is "locked" or not. It's not clear, especially when the game week starts mid week or there are additional games etc. Many thanks, Chris

Fives scoring weeks run from Saturday to Saturday. You can make changes up until 12 noon on Saturday, and then changes are locked until after the final game of that game week. Therefore, you can usually make changes from midnight on Tuesday until noon on Saturday (provided there are no Tuesday/Wednesday matches.

I think whether Welbeck got the touch for the Scholes goal is difficult to tell. However I believe if you watch the 2nd goal enough times you'll see it was David Wheater and not Rooney prodding the ball to Welbeck.

If you slow the footage right down you can see it's Rooney who gets the final touch. Wheater may kick Rooney's foot onto the ball, but the final touch definitely comes from the United striker.

OK. It's a matter of interpretation and yours is the one that counts. Thanks for the reply. Keep up the good work!

I'm personally pretty sure Wheater does get the main touch, but the ball seems to brush Rooney's foot afterwards, only very slightly, but the double change of spin on the ball when you slow it down from the closest angle suggests two touches here.

I am quite certain Welbeck got a touch on the throughball to Scholes' goal!

Neil, our assist panel watch the goal from all available angles and are confident there was no touch from Welbeck. The pass from Rooney is curling away from goal, as you can see from looking at the path of the ball compared to the edge of the six yard box. Welbeck's foot is above the ball and he tries to drag it back towards goal, but the ball continues to curl away from goal on the same path as Rooney's pass, suggesting there was no contact from Welbeck. The ball did take a slight bobble, which may suggest a touch, but on closer inspection this is as a result of it hitting a divot on the pitch, rather than from any touch by Welbeck. Therefore, the assist is solely Rooney's.

Thanks for the reply. It looked to me as if the ball increased in speed when it 'hit' Welbeck's foot - so I assumed that was why. But I don't have the luxury of multiple angle replays so I must defer to the Fantasy League powers that be!

I agree with Neil about the apparent increase in speed, but then - full disclosure - I do have Wellbeck. :-)
