Parker speaks of England honour, Keane heaps praise on boss as Given returns and Lambert plays down Holt move

Scott Parker has said that wearing the Three Lions shirt at Euro 2012 will be a moment of huge significance for him.

The Tottenham midfielder, who only managed four fantasy football points from 28 league appearances last year, told Eurosport:

"This tournament will be a very fulfilling experience in my career, it means everything really and is all I ever wanted as a player."

Meanwhile, former Spurs forward Robbie Keane has hailed Giovanni Trapattoni’s experience as a crucial factor that could help the Republic of Ireland reach the quarter-finals, the BBC reports.

Keane, who has scored 53 times in 115 caps for his country said: "He knows exactly what he has to do.

"He's been in the game a long time and won nearly every trophy."

In a further boost for the Irish, Keane’s team-mate Shay Given has been given the green light ahead of their opener against Croatia on Sunday.

The Aston Villa goalkeeper, who kept eight clean sheets in 31 league games last season, missed a training session on Tuesday with a calf injury but Sky Sports now reports that he has been passed fit for the weekend.

Elsewhere, Paul Lambert has wasted no time since being appointed at Villa Park in praising want-away Norwich striker Grant Holt.

According to the Daily Mail, Lambert claims he is not trying to lure his old front-man to the Midlands, though it is widely known that the 31-year-old centre-forward is looking for a new club after the Canaries failed to offer him a three-year-deal.

Lambert said that there were a number of players he was considering approaching, though Holt was not one of them.

"We will have to wait and see what happens. I'm only just in the door at the minute and I'll see what happens in the next few weeks and months."

Holt scored an impressive 49 fantasy football points last season in 25 appearances for Norwich.
